Random bits o' photography

Took this picture for my fiance's band, Audacious, a few weeks ago. In my opinion, this is the coolest looking alleyway in downtown Idaho Falls. The lighting has been marvelous no matter what time of day I've gone there.
If you're interested in the band, you can check them out at their myspace page.

Dear Republicans,

My name is Ashley. I live in Idaho, working for one of the biggest retail stores in the country. I live with my fiance, who works at a lesser known grocery store. Both of us graduated from high school, and went to work immediately. College right now is a mostly unaffordable idea.

Now my job does provide for some insurance, but pays for what the experts refer to as jack shit. I'm the lucky one though, considering my fiance doesn't even have the benefit of such tissue paper coverage. So if the both of us get into some horrific car accident or something, at least my insurance will pay for a $40 tablet of aspirin at the hospital.

Both of us are hard working citizens. We pay our taxes and try our hardest to contribute to society (though lets be honest, that can be pretty hard when you are also trying to get food on the table and fill up your gas tank every week). What if I get pregnant? What if he breaks his leg on the job? What if we both get the flu? What if, what if what if?

Don't we deserve affordable health care? Doesn't the single mother down the street? The cashier who rang up your groceries? The guy that cuts your grass? Don't we deserve it as much as you do? As much as your wife, children, and parents do? Why is it that this country is more willing to spend its money killing people overseas then spend money saving lives at home? Why is it that the people who say we are a "Christian Nation" are the most likely to say not everyone should have this?

I just can't help but think of those worse off then I am. People like my grandma, who found out about her cancer a year before she qualified for Medicare. People like my mother, who can't afford her medications because the school district took her job and insurance away from her. People like that homeless guy on the corner, coughing so hard he isn't able to hold up his "Please help!" sign. People like myself, who doesn't dare go to college because it would mean going without even my pitiful insurance for a while.

What congress has been considering isn't perfect. We all are aware of that. But something has to be done.
